Colunata House is defined by an edgy architecture, especially envisioned by Portuguese architect Mario Martins to conquer the rocky landscape of the shore. The design of the residence aimed at making the most of its location, by offering stunning panoramic views. Its curving shape allowed large openings towards a central swimming pool and the sea beyond. It is as if the curving lines on the exterior are abandoned, in order to make room for a less playful and more peaceful indoor environment. Extensive use of glass brings in natural light and redirects attention to the grandeur of the neighboring landscape.

A colorful, kitschy poster on your wall is a pretty great addition to any room but a colorful, kitschy poster that you can take down and fold into something functional? Even better. Austrian design collective mostlikely teamed up with artist BOICUT to make posters that are easily made into colorful lampshades.
The group set out to create complex designer objects that could be shipped anywhere in the world without exorbitant shipping costs. Indeed, the poster/shades arrive in a regular cardboard tube. After you unfurl the treasure, you can decide whether to display it on the wall or cut it up and glue it together to create a unique animal-themed lampshade.
The shades take only basic origami and gluing skills to assemble.

A few weeks ago, kids across the nation loaded up their cars and kissed their loved ones goodbye as they headed off to college for the first time. Not every student has had an easy path getting to college, but organizations like the Folds of Honor Foundation have helped make the dream of an education a reality for so many military families across the country since 2007.
Founded by Major Dan Rooney following his second tour of duty in Iraq, the Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to dependents and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. To date, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 3,800 educational scholarships across the country.
As the exclusive furniture provider and a sponsor of the foundation, CORT donated $50,000 this year to Folds of Honor to go towards scholarships to deserving military family members. In total, 10 recipients each received a $5,000 scholarship to be used immediately or for future education needs.
CORT selected Folds of Honor as their corporate philanthropic partner because of their deep dedication to our military personnel over the last 40 years of being in business and because education has always been an important cause supported across CORT’s entire organization.
To help generate funds for the scholarship program, CORT has hosted a variety of special fundraising activities online and through our showrooms. CORT’s texting program runs through the end of this year, offering a convenient option for making a donation to the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Connaught Residence, located in Notre Dame de Grâce, Montréal, was a dull, concrete house built in the 50s that needed an substantial upgrade. The owners, a growing family, wanted a more spacious and contemporary home. They also mentioned that they would love to keep a certain harmony and the new design had to blend somehow with the old houses original design line. Naturehumaine, the firm responsible with the renewal, after a careful analysis, found the solution for this problem. In order to expand the living space, the architecture firm decided to start with an extension. The intervention also consisted in re-organising the interior, to make it more comfortable and inspiring.

Shabby Chic Decorating Ideas
Shabby chic has been a popular trend for some time, but it’s one of those design ideas which usually tend to go either wonderfully right or dramatically wrong. This is because the shabby chic look is highly stylised, so unless you have a good idea in mind about how you want to implement it in your home, the danger is that you will overlook what makes shabby chic so special.
Behind the shabby chic ethos is a desire for the quaint, charming, vintage and stylish. Shabby chic doesn’t necessarily, despite the name, have to actually look shabby. There are many modern homes which pay homage to shabby chic whilst actually utilising a whole array of contemporary pieces, overlaid with a veneer of shabby chic styling which informs the design without actually adhering to any kind of true vintage ethos. But this doesn’t mean that this type of decorating is any less shabby chic.
