15 Baby Safety Items Every Home Should Have

Posted by Elijah Ligertwood under Home Improvement Posts

My eight-month-old boy just became mobile. As a man who stuck a finger in a power socket as a baby, I’m pretty sensitive to the dangers of curious little fingers, toes and tongues (the “taste everything” phase is now overlapping with the “roll to everything” phase). Of course, most parents are conscientious about safe cribs, toys and other items for the baby, but may overlook dangers outside the nursery and around the rest of the house. Here are 15 important baby safety items that are either in place around my house or will be there before my little man takes his first step.

From outlet covers to first air kits, parents have plenty of options for keeping babies safe.

9 Awesome Uses for Junk Mail

Posted by Elijah Ligertwood under Home Improvement Posts

Most people don’t give a second thought to tossing junk mail in the recycling bin. But with over 100 billion pieces delivered annually, some savvy recipients are seeing it differently. Instead of seeing junk mail as junk, they see it as a gold mine. As the saying goes, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

For this reason, some people order as much junk mail as they can. I once read about a man who burned his junk mail. He received enough of it to keep his house warm all winter. In another vein, JunkMailGems.com strictly sells products made from re-purposed junk mail.

Link was created by Vibia Design and stands for an interesting system that suggests “the daylight entering through a skylight”. This modular design provides an architectural dimension to the object and is adapted to spaces of varying size and geometry. The system consists of four modules of different sizes and depths that combine in unlimited ways and orientations. The modules are electrically connected together. Due to energy-saving lamps, they are suitable for illuminating work surfaces. Here is a description from the producers: Like the skyline of a great city… The modules of the Link lighting system allow you to create silhouettes and volumes on the ceiling to suit every room and every location.

Posted by Elijah Ligertwood under Home Improvement Posts

Alex Seleznev, a service department worker for Sandri Oil in Greenfield, MA, has some tips regarding water heaters. If you are looking to upgrade or replace your water heater, or you are looking at purchasing a new home, it’s best to calculate how much hot water you think you are going to need. Seleznev said that the storage tanks for hot water heaters range from 10 to 120 gallons. The average home owner generally has a 40 to 90-gallon storage tank.

If you have a hot tub or have a large family, you are going to need a much larger storage tank. Obviously, if you live alone, a 40-gallon tank will more than do the job.

Have A Seat Lounger Is Comfortable Yet Firm

Posted by Elijah Ligertwood under Home Improvement Posts

Exhibited at the 2011 Interior Design Show in Toronto and designed by Bram Sawatzky, the Have a Seat lounger could be exactly the comfortable yet firm seating solution you were looking for. According to the designer the Have a Seat lounger will surprise you with a hard outer shell only to reveal a “soft, welcoming interior” inside. In order to build the Have a Seat lounger, Sawatzky used a tubular steel frame, recycled fiber, wood veneer panels for the back seat and a thick layer of felt for the seating area. The Have a Seat lounger seems to be pretty easy to produce, but, as much as you may already love it, the chair isn’t yet available in stores.
