Now Taking Applications For the 2012 Green America Awards!: 2012 Green America Awards Application
What types of community improvement projects qualify? The award winners will be chosen from those groups who submit a local environment community project that makes best use of the trees, bushes and shrubs that Nature Hills Nursery will award.
Examples of potential Nature Hills Nursery Green America Award winning projects could be:
– A local soil erosion control plan that utilizes plants to stabilize steep hillside slopes or river banks.
– The reclamation of an abandoned lot where a house or factory once stood with the creation of a fruit orchard that will provide much needed fruit to nearby low-income residents.
– Creating or refurbishing the landscape in a community park.
– Creating a wildlife habitat for birds or animals on donated land that is (or has been) abandoned or neglected.
Our goal is to help communities reclaim land, turning eyesores into oases. We want to help dedicated individuals, groups and organizations make their local communities better by providing a living gift of trees and plants that not only clean the air but also provide respite and a natural retreat. With each reclamation, wildlife and beauty can once again flourish.
Award Details Nature Hills Nursery will donate $4,500 of plant materials annually to the earth friendly award-winning projects. Awards will be presented to a Grand Prize winner in the amount of $2,000 of plant materials. First place winner will receive $1,250 in plant materials, the Second Place winner $750 in plant materials, and the Third Place winner $500 in plant materials. The plant materials can contain trees, fruit trees, bushes and shrubs, perennials, and vegetable seeds.
Grand Prize – $2,000 of plant materials (Example 25 perennials, 45 small fruit bushes, 50 shrubs, 15 fruit trees, 15 trees)
First Place – $1,250 of plant materials
Second Place – $750 of plant material
Third Place – $500 of plant material
Application Dates: March 15, 2012 thru June 17, 2012 Prize Details:
Awards will be issued to each winner in the form of a gift certificate which can be redeemed for plant materials from Nature Hills Nursery. It is our hope that, by providing plants, we can help these winners create places of beauty and nature in their local communities.
Eligibility Requirements:
· Eligible submissions will be accepted from charitable or educational organizations that operate as a non profit entity
· Awards must be used by the winning organization to complete their project plan and cannot be sold or used in any way other than for the project described in the application submitted by the organization.
Winners Picked by Facebook Votes:
The actual winners of the 2012 Green America Awards will be determined by votes for each semi-finalist on the Nature Hills Nursery Facebook page. The voting will proceed in a series of head-to-head contests between pairs of semi-finalists. The winner in each head-to-head vote will advance to the next round. (Similar to the way college basketball teams advance to the next round in the NCAA Basketball Tournament.)
In the First Round of Facebook voting, a winner will be selected in each of the four head-to-head contests. Voting in the First Round will begin on July 9 and will end at 12 midnight Central Time on July 18.
The four victorious entrants will then be paired up in the Second Round. Voting in the Second Round will begin on July 20 and will end at 12 midnight Central Time on July 29.
Based upon Facebook votes in the Second Round, the two victorious entrants will proceed to the Grand Prize Round for a head-to-head contest that will determine the Grand Prize Winner and First Prize Winner in the 2012 Green America Awards. The two entrants that did not advance to the Grand Prize Round will advance to the Silver Round that will determine which entrants win the Second and Third Prizes. Voting in the Grand Prize Round and Silver Round will begin on July 31 and will end at 12 midnight Central time on August 9.
Final winners of the 2012 Nature Hills Nursery Green America Awards will be announced on August 11, 2012, on both www.naturehills.com and the Nature Hills Nursery Facebook page.
